I am super excited to be a part of telling your love story!
Here is my guide to creating the best experience possible for your shoot and some of my pro-tips for planning the day.

Plan your shoot in advance.
If you are planning to use these photos for your wedding invites, I highly suggest planning your shoot at least 4-6 months prior to your wedding date. This will give you enough time to plan ahead and avoid unexpected delays or any other hiccups that might occur along the way.

Plan your shoot earlier in the day or later in the afternoon.
If you want to shoot at a busier location like the beach, I suggest planning your shoot in the morning. Especially in summer months to get the beach to yourselves.
If you’re down to get up early and beat the crowds, sunrise typically has brighter and softer light than sunsets, and allows for more free range of the location.
If mornings aren’t your thing, I suggest shoots an hour before the sunsets to get that golden hour look.

Choose a location that best represents you.
My goal for your engagement shoot is to capture your story and what your love looks like.
I know it can be tempting to pick a location based on a Pinterest board you saw, or because a look is trending right now, but my biggest advice is to pick a location or look that holds a special meaning to you. This could look like recreating your first date, your favorite beach to watch the sunset at, a cool hiking trail you love to explore together, or even your house.
If you just want a pretty spot and have a general look in mind, I am happy to offer guidance on that, too. Ultimately, I want you to have an amazing experience during our shoot and feel connected to the space and each other… not just take photos to take photos.

Bring props that add to your shoot.
Think of things that show off or compliment your personalities.
These could be:
Your favorite drink or a bottle of champagne to pop
An instrument
Love notes you have written to each other
Motorcycle or bike
Flowers
Your dog or pet (only if they are well behaved or you have someone to help)
BONUS: I always recommend bringing a blanket to sit on for some photos or to change outfits, especially at locations that do not have easily accessible bathrooms or places to change.

Don’t wear clothes that are too busy or too hard move in.
For your photos to look as candid and natural as possible, we will be doing a lot of movement, so keep this in mind when choosing your outfits.
Consider colors that would look good with the surroundings of your shoot. Typically, neutral colors like white and tan photograph really well in any setting.
Dress comfy and cute.
Avoid busy patterns and big logos. If one of you opt to wear a patterned outfit, the other should stick to wearing solid colors.
You can bring one to two outfits, but anything more tends to be too much. If you bring two outfits, I suggest bringing one casual outfit and one dressier outfit. When in doubt, wear your favorite fit that makes you feel confident.
Keep it simple.
Ultimately, I want you to feel like yourself and comfortable in whatever you choose to wear.

Stick to your normal makeup routine.
With makeup I always suggest doing what you feel comfortable with. If you normally wear makeup and get your hair done because it makes you feel your best do it! If you are usually minimal with makeup I would suggest sticking to your normal makeup routine. When I edit images I refine skin and edit out any impermanent blemishes like pimples so don’t worry if one pops up right before your shoot.

Don’t forget to clean your ring.
If ring photos are important to you, I suggest cleaning your engagement ring prior to our shoot to give it an extra sparkle in your photos!
I hope this makes you feel more comfortable before stepping in front of my lens!
